Nanzen-ji Temple

What we’ll do?

Join us for a laid-back day in Kyoto that feels less like a tour and more like hanging out with a friend who knows the place inside out. We’ll start at Nanzen-ji, a Zen temple with a story that changed Japan’s history. Founded in 1291 by Emperor Kameyama, it’s the first imperial Zen temple, with a peaceful vibe that draws locals for its towering gate and lush greenery.

I’ll share Nanzen-ji’s secrets, like why Kameyama chose Zen and how it shaped samurai culture, as we stroll past the 22-meter Sanmon Gate and the iconic waterway arch, a Kyoto gem often seen in films. You can snap photos by the gate or the 6-meter stone lantern, which seems small but surprises everyone with its size.

After Nanzen-ji, we’ll chat about your Japan trip plans over coffee at a cozy nearby spot or during a scenic stroll to Okazaki Park—you choose. We’ll share recommended spots across Japan and tips for a smooth, unforgettable trip. Miyuki might snap natural photos of you soaking in the moment, capturing Kyoto’s charm without posed vibes.

By the end, you’ll have tasted something authentic, seen corners most miss, gotten new friends, and walked away with a few good pictures and a real feel for Kyoto.
