Overview

Join us for an exclusive 5-hour private tour through Kyoto’s heart, where you’ll explore a legendary route tied to The Tale of Genji from the Heian era (794-1180) and more. Wander the iconic Bamboo Forest with just your guides, stop by hidden temples with a Ghibli-like vibe, savor authentic local flavors at a spot chosen for you, and craft your own wagashi in a hands-on workshop. This intimate journey, led by Jesús and Miyuki, offers personalized insights that transform your trip into a unique adventure.

Explore Arashiyama like a local

Step away from Arashiyama’s crowds and join us for a 5-hour adventure that feels like a day with a friend. We’ll begin at the iconic Bamboo Forest, a serene escape rooted in the Heian era (794-1180), where tall stalks whisper tales of ancient Kyoto. Our carefully selected route starts with a quiet shrine linked to The Tale of Genji, home to a unique Torii arch and a powerful stone you won’t want to miss. We’ll then take a less crowded path among the tallest bamboos, perfect for photos and feeling the area’s special energy.

Along the way, we’ll enjoy green mountain views, stop by hidden temples with a Ghibli-like vibe, and share personal stories that bring the area’s history to life.

Craft your own Artisanal Wagashi

After a warm, local meal picked to suit your tastes, we’ll dive into a wagashi-making workshop. This fun activity lets you shape your own traditional sweet, feeling the care that defines Japanese craftsmanship. I’ll translate the sensei’s instructions live, ensuring you leave with a creation to treasure, a perfect memento of your time with us.

Our Last Stop

Our day ends at Togetsukyo Bridge, a stunning landmark named for the moon’s reflection in a Heian-era poem by Emperor Kameyama. We’ll snap photos here, then, if the weather allows, head to a secret riverside spot few even know exists. If open, we’ll board a yellow boat to a hidden tavern, paddling along the Katsura River for a touch of adventure. There, we’ll rest with a cold beer, swap Kyoto stories, and soak in the river’s calm, making this a rare, unforgettable close to your tour.

Paddling our way to the tavern.
